GPRTU Increases Transport Fares By 10%

The Ghana Private Road Transport Union of TUC have unanimously increased transport fares by 10%.

According to the National Chairman for the GPRTU, a decision to increase the fares by 10% was taken at a decision by the various stakeholders at a meeting on Tuesday.

Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' program, National Chairman for the GPRTU, Kwame Kumah explained that the decision takes effect Monday, 16th September, 2019.

He added that drivers and passengers should take note and adhere to the directive in order not to cause any confusion.

He explained that their efforts to have transport fares increased previously have been thwarted by the government.

"Just as the government removed taxes imposed on luxury vehicles, we thought the same would be applied to fuel prices, but that has not been the case," he said.

"So we are pleading with Ghanaians to bear with us and accept the increment," he added.
