‘Comments’ by Mahama On Otumfuo’s UN Address Unnecessary – Rawlings

Former President Jerry John Rawlings has commended Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II for his address at the UN High Level Forum on Culture of Peace last Friday and said he made Ghana proud.

Mr Rawlings, however, chastised his party’s leader, John Dramani Mahama, over the twist his camp seems to have put on the Asante king’s address.

A former Chief of Staff to Mr Mahama, Julius Debrah, issued a statement on Sunday, contesting the pronouncements of His Eminence, the Asantehene, who said but for his persuasion of Mr Mahama to concede defeat, the country would have been plunged into electoral violence.

“As former Chief of Staff to President Mahama, I was associated closely with all the pre, during and post 2016 poll events,” Mr Debrah contested.

“I state without equivocation that the decision to concede and congratulate Nana Akufo-Addo even before the official results were declared was taken by President Mahama himself without any persuasion from any quarter,” he stressed.

But this Mr Rawlings calls “unwarranted and unnecessary”.
