Suspect Armed Robber Shot Dead By Escort Police

An Escort Police Officer on Monday dawn shot and killed one of six suspected masked armed robbers who attacked passengers in an OA commercial bus vehicle at a location between Attakura and Dawadawa on the Kintampo-Buipe highway.

The robbers, dressed in all-black attire and wielding SB short guns ordered a Northern Region-bound cement-loaded articulator truck with registration number GN 366-18 and driven by Mr Eric Amoako to cross the barrier the police had mounted ahead of the OA bus with registration number GT5220-17 driven by Mr Kwabena Nimo.

The robbers, standing in the middle of the road flagged the bus to stop and four of them went to the driver’s side whilst the other two opened the passengers’ side door to start raiding. In the process an escort Police officer, Constable Abraham Akyerekwah shot and killed one of them instantly.

The rest fled into the bush and returned fire which hit the side of the bus.

Chief Inspector Augustine Kingsley Oppong, the Bono, Bono East and Ahafo Regional Police Public Relations Officer, told the Ghana News Agency in Sunyani, adding that Constable Akyerekwah reported the incident to the Kintampo Police at about 0300 hours.

He said the Police rushed to the scene but found only two daggers and a black musk and the body of the deceased robber. It had been deposited at the Kintampo Municipal Government Hospital Mortuary, pending identification and autopsy, Chief Inspector Oppong added
