Alleged Terrorist Kidnaps His Ghanaian Lawyer In Mali

Hardened Yemeni/Malian criminal, Mohammed Ould Ibrahim has kidnapped his lawyer, Isaac Eshun in Mali last week, this writer can confirm.

Popularly referred to as Omar, the alleged rapist, terrorist and scammer subjected his Ghanaian lawyer to human rights abuses of the most degrading order in Bamako.

The lawyer was in Mali last upon invitation by the suspected Yemeni/ Malian criminal, with the sole aim of putting to bed a protracted dispute between Omar on one side and the families of Yousef Jibril and Hassan Zein, a Ghanaian business mogul on the other side.

Narrating his ordeal to the media on arrival last Friday, Eshun, lawyer for Omar said his client compelled him under duress (At gun point) to speak evil against Mr Zein, while his client recorded him on video in his (Omar) office, where his heavily built thugs and some corrupt elements of the gendarmerie.

The lawyer indicated that his client dictated his (Eshun) confession aimed at blackmailing Mr Zein.

According to the emotionally traumatized lawyer, Omar masterminded the seizure of his passport few minutes on his arrival in Bamako.

He mentioned that he was later sent to the police for interrogation for committing no offense.

He pointed out that his ordeal attracted the attention of Ghana's Embassy in Bamako, which forced its officials to intervene in the matter some Malian police officials referred to as order from above.

But the Ghanaian authorities had little influence, due to Omar's deep connections with some Malian top officials.

The lawyer, who appeared troubled at the Kotoka International Airport said "I have really suffered my brothers. Thanks God l am back in full piece , because the law does not work in Mali. Omar, my client is so powerful in spite of his nefarious activities in Bamako.

"He took me to his office and forced me; with a pistol on my head to say things against Mr Zein, and that he(Omar) was not a rapist and a terrorist as published in the media.

"l obliged to his mafia tactics for fear of my life, l realised the Malian authorities take instructions from him, I kept asking for my offense to merit the ordeal but non of the officials were able to point out what l have done. I was confined to a cubicle and denied my freedom so l decided to embark on a hunger strike, but did nothing to stop what l describe as their mafia tactics.

"In the end, l had to escape for my dear life to Ghana at dawn because everything pointed to the fact that my life was in danger. Indeed, Omar is treacherous."

Last week, the Yemeni crime suspect invited his lawyer to Bamako, after Dr Hassan Ayariga, Alhaji Sulley Bashiru and Ahmed Agali Bashir, honorary Consul of Niger in Kumasi had brokered a peace deal with Mr Zein to end a long standing friction between Omar and Mr Zein.

Mr Zein incurred the wrath of Omar after the latter discovered that the former offered help for the minor rape victim.

Attempts by the national Chief Imam, Dr Sheikh Osman Sharabutu and other top officials had fallen through.

Omar, who holds multiple passports and declared wanted in many African countries keep promising to smoke the peace pipe after agreements have been reached but go contrary to his words.

He was expected to sign a peace document, which his lawyer (Eshun) sent to Mali, admitting his wrong actions in the past, only to turn around and subject his lawyer to ill treatment .

Meanwhile, indications are that, the BNI has released the arrested Yemeni suspected criminals who has breached immigration laws and engaged in various terrorist activities.

The question on the lips of many Ghanaians is why the security agencies seem unconcerned in the midst of their occasional open shooting sprees and recent coup d'etat attempt.
