Akufo-Addo Can’t Impose His Agenda Over Ghana’s Interest - Boabeng Asamoah

Director of Communication for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Lawyer Yaw Buabeng Asamoah has bemoaned the rate at which many people especially those in the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) have decided to crucify President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo over the Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE).

According to him, President Akufo-Addo as Ghanaians can testify is performing well and there is nothing that makes them feel bitter about him so long as he [Nana Addo] has been a listening servant in the midst of agitations.

Commenting on the Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' Morning Show, the Adentan Constituency MP reminded Ghanaians about the level of religiosity in the country which will make it difficult for the Akufo-Addo led NPP government take any decision which will go contrary to the beliefs and norms of the people.

"The issue is that in this country, from Friday to Sunday, people either go to church or to the mosque with their children to worship God. There is nothing that takes place in this country that we don’t consider God first before we do it. The level of religiosity in this country is unprecedented to the extent even in greetings, we mention God,” he said.

To him, the fact that the clergy and the traditional leaders have always been relied upon to resolve issues which always end well is enough reason to say that the Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) cannot happen without the approval from the clergy who are serving on the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA).

“How come whenever there is an issue, the clergy get involved and it ends well? Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) can never happen because NaCCA involves the services of the clergy to prepare a curriculum for all of our children and so are we saying that per the guidelines which are being circulated, it is NaCCA which has agreed for this curriculum to be taught in schools? The issue is even that, they are not done with the curriculum yet,” he wondered.

He again wondered why people are talking about the CSE in public as if there is a deliberate attempt to secretly do something to destroy the future of the children in the country; quizzing that, “what will be the benefit or gain of the President and the NPP government? After Nana Addo has committed his elections to the Lord with the prayers of pastors and Imams and then, he wants to do which is abominable to the country; how does that make sense? It will never happen in this country because he is not like that.”

He further reminded Ghanaians that President Akufo-Addo is a listening leader to listen to a consensus regarding the welfare of Ghanaians as he did in the cases of the toll levy, the port levy, and the luxury tax.

“What has ever happened that Nana Addo was obstinate to do the will of his people? When there was a toll levy and the people expressed their dislike, the President listened to their plea and reduced the toll levy. When the issue of port levy came up the people lamented, he canceled it regardless of the consequences it might have on his government. He considered the interest of the people to be the interest of his government. NPP government introduced luxury tax and when the people again complained, Nana Addo canceled it and so why will someone talk about the Comprehensive Sexuality Education as if the President has defiled someone’s child?”
