Taxi Driver Kills Mother

A taxi driver believed to be in his early 20s is in police custody for allegedly killing his own mother without any provocation, at Kwesimitsim Zabon Zongo in the Effia-Kwesimitsim Municipality of the Western Region.

The suspect, whose name was given only as Mawuli, was said to have stabbed his 52-year-old mother, whose name was also given as Daavi, several times in the neck and stomach with a knife until she died.

According to sources, Mawuli lived in the same room with his mother and elder sister.

After allegedly killing his mother, the taxi driver was said to have also stabbed the elder sister who rushed to see what was happening in the mother’s room when she heard her shouting for help.

The sister is currently in a critical condition at Effia-Nkwanta Hospital.

According to some of the residents in the area, they could not know why the taxi driver committed the alleged heinous crime since he was known in the area as a very calm person.

They indicated that after allegedly killing the mother, Mawuli turned to the elder sister and stabbed her in the arm before he was overpowered.

Some other residents asserted that, of late, they had been seeing the taxi driver visiting some of the ghettos in the area where some recalcitrant persons hide to smoke marijuana.

According to one of the residents, Ekua Basiwaa who lives with the victim in the same compound house noted she was washing her clothes outside when the unfortunate incident happened.

According to her, she heard someone shouting for help and when she turned she saw the victim being chased by the son with a kitchen knife in his hand.

“I ran and called some guys around to come and help to overpower the suspect but when I returned I saw the mother lying in a pool of blood and was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival,” she added.

She continued “Mawuli later attacked his elder sister with the knife but he was overpowered by some men in the vicinity and handed him over to the police.

The Kwesimintsim District Police Command has confirmed the arrest of the suspect and indicated that investigations were ongoing.
