The Municipal Chief Executive of Ayawaso West Municipal Assembly, Hon. Sandra Owusu Ahinkorah has presented scholarships to 90 brilliant but needy students from her municipal assembly to further their education in the tertiary institutions.

The presentation was done under the District Scholarship Scheme introduced by His Excellency the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to make education accessible to all Ghanaians even at the tertiary level.

In a speech to the recipients of the scholarship, Hon. Ahinkorah who also doubles as the Municipal Scholarship Committee Chairperson asked them to take their studies seriously in order not to lose the scholarship as it is for needy but brilliant students.

She, however, expressed gratitude to his Excellency the President for his initiative to decentralize the scholarship scheme to empower MMDCEs and also to ensure transparency in the award of the scholarship nationwide.

The Municipal Chief Executive also disclosed that since the launch of the district awards scheme, about 30,000 students have benefited and are pursuing diploma, degree and Ph.D. programs.

The recipients, therefore, applauded Hon. Sandra Owusu Ahinkorah and her Municipal Assembly for ensuring that students above their quota were awarded the scholarship to further education in the tertiary level.

They again assured the MCE and the Assembly their preparedness to put their shoulders to the wheel to make the assembly proud.

In attendance were the Municipal Coordinating Director, a lecturer from the University of Ghana and representatives from the scholarship secretariat were present during the presentation of the scholarship to the brilliant-needy students in the Municipal Assembly.
