The Ghana Gas Challenge; Broadening Knowledge Base Through Quiz Competitions

The Ghana National Gas Company in its effort to get the general public and industry players in the oil and gas sector enlightened on gas related matters has introduced a quiz Competition which will expose the people to the complexity of the industry and also varied opportunities in the entire Gas Value Chain.

The competition seeks to put the spotlight on the operations of the company and further address some misconceptions relating to the production of indigenous gas.

The Tertiary Institutions' Edition which commenced with Zone One saw three Tertiary Institutions pitched their strengths against each other at the Cedi Center, Department of Economics Auditorium at University of Ghana Legon, based on the knowledge they had acquired during their period of training. The participating Schools on the day were the Univeristy of Ghana, Regional Maritime University and Ghana Technology University College.

The atmosphere at the auditorium was fully charged with friendly chants from surporters of the participating Institutions .
The “MC" for the day, the renowned screenplay personality Joselyn Dumas, contributed splendidly to lighten up the events.

After five rounds of the quiz the University of Ghana emerged victorious on the day whiles Ghana Telecom University College and Ghana Maritime University as first and second runners up, respectively.

The CEO of Ghana National Gas Company, Dr. Ben K.D. Asante underscored the importance of the event and indicated that the aim was to "create awareness and increase the knowledge base in the gas industry" to carry the general public along”.

The Gas Challenge Committee Chairperson and Snr. Manager for Government Relations, Ms Augustina Asare Osei also expressed hope that the event will bridge the gap between the industry and academia whiles educating the public as well.

The next competition takes place at the UMaT Mini auditorium in Tarkwa on Tuesday 15 October, 2019, with competing Institutions as UMaT, University of Cape Coast and Takoradi Technical University in Zone two.

The final preliminary stage comes of at the College of Engineering Auditorium, KNUST on 26th October, 2019 with KNUST competing with University of Energy and Natural Resources and All Nations University in Zone three.

The winners of the three zones would meet at the University of Ghana, Cedi Centre on 30th October, 2019.
