After all the hullabaloo about a vice chancellor seeking romance from a female contractor, it all ended in hot air.
Andreas Pizziconi rushed to social media to add fuel to an already burning subject when she put the highly respected vice chancellor of the University of Ghana, Legon, on the spot. Andreas, CEO of Integras’, said the man wanted a hug so her request would scale through without inhibition.
Thankfully, she has chickened out of the rather flimsy name-denting project. If she expected her rather long treatise to straighten the nebulous matter, she failed. It takes more than one read to really find a way out of the maze. A contract denied, delayed approval et al buried in an explanation of what she said the media did not handle well, hence the impression that she accused the VC. We wish we could describe it as somewhat gibberish.
Her U-turn which she executed subtly by blaming it all on the media was interesting. Her berating of journalists for her predicament, for us, does not have legs to stand.
It is always easy to blame the media when messages elicit disturbing consequences as in the case under review.
Andreas should bear in mind that consumers of our products are able to read between the lines and draw appropriate conclusions, which they have done. They think she got it wrong.
Juxtaposing what she said earlier alongside her latest explanation, we are at a loss as to what exactly she is seeking to achieve.
We are grateful to providence though that the image of Vice Chancellor Prof. Ebenezer Oduro Owusu and by extension the premier tertiary institution have been spared what could have become an irreversible image dent.
Ghanaian men may have to reconsider hugging women, as it is the practice in other countries before they are rubbished for making romantic overtures. Interestingly, one does not ask for a hug; you just stretch your arms and that’s it. Hugging is not an act of romance anyway.
Andreas might have withdrawn her initial charge but the sting persists in her explanation: her project suffered tribulation because there is something she failed to do. Which is?
The sex-for-grades issue is something we are encouraging all Ghanaians to stand up against because we want the dignity of women to be restored.
When however such failed, #me too gimmicks are released on social media recklessly the consequences do inure to the interest of the crusade.
Those who have issues with men should ensure that their cases are grounded in veracity because public opinion has a way of interrogating such matters.
