56,000 Teachers To Be Employed By End Of October

The Minister of Education, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has revealed that the government will employ 56,000 teachers by the end of this month.

“By the close of the month, 56,000 teachers would have been employed by the government. Last year at the advent of the double track, we employed 8,700 teachers to support teaching staff. We are also about employing over 1,500 school support staff to support the kitchen staff who seems to have been overly burdened by the double track,” Dr. Prempeh said.

Addressing students of Nkawkaw Senior High School in the Kwahu West Municipal of the Eastern Region as part of President Akufo-Addo’s three-day tour of the region, the Education Minister said under the Free SHS policy, students also get free uniforms, food and other stuff and this has not happened in many years.

He said the government was keen on resolving all problems associated with the Free SHS to make it even better. “Your Excellency, you said at the beginning of your government that if there was any sector that Ghana should put its investment in, it is the future of the country, and that future is represented by the beneficiaries of the Free SHS,” he added.

Dr. Robert Forson, Headmaster of the Nkawkaw Senior High School, urged the government to continue to improve infrastructure in the various schools, including his outfit to enhance teaching and learning.
