Recruits of the Nation Builders Corps (NABCo) must be given preferential treatment when it comes to employment in the public sector, President Nana Akufo-Addo has directed the ministries, departments and agencies.

Speaking at the first-anniversary ceremony of NABCo in Accra, the President said the sacrifices made by the recruits in serving the nation for the past one year, as well as the experiences they have gathered within the period, make them meriting of such preferential treatment. “Thus far”, the President said, “The NABCo Module Implementation Partners have fulfilled their part of the bargain”. “I commend them for their partnership of the scheme, and would appeal to them to recognise and reward the sacrifices made by trainees.

“They should be the first to be considered when opportunities for permanent employment come up”, the President directed. Nana Akufo-Addo said: “Across all the sectors of our national life are examples of such positive stories of valuable contributions by our young NABCo trainees”, adding: “We owe them these opportunities to help them realise their potential”. “Not only does this assist with their growth, but it also helps to secure our collective future,” the President added. The CEO of NABCo, Dr Ibrahim Anyass said at the event that so far, 11,000 of the initial 100,000 recruits have exited the programme and gained skills for the job market.

“A year on, 11,000-plus have exited the scheme with permanent employment with the public and private sector. These alumni offer worthy testimonies of life before NABCo and life after they had joined NABCo.”
