Editorial: After The NPP Conference

Over the weekend, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) met at a conference in Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional Capital, to elect the national executives who would lead the party for the next four years. The conference ended at dawn on Sunday with the election of Mr. Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey as Chairman with others being elected into various executive positions. At this point, we at the Daily Searchlight would like to extend our sincerest congratulations to the winning executives for winning the trust of their fellow kukrudites, and to the losing candidates for putting up a good fight! Indeed, the campaigning leading up to the congress was generally fair and without unnecessary aggravation, and it is this type of politicking that we think this nation should encourage. That said, it is clear that Mr. Obtsebi Lamptey and his team take over a very interesting time in our history as a nation, when the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) is clearly losing the fight to improve the conditions of life of the Ghanaian. For many Ghanaians, the NPP holds the real hope of the future. It is in this direction that we call on the new executives to, as quickly as possible, put together their plans towards ensuring that the NPP gears up its electoral machine to win back power. It our belief that the new executive do not have the luxury of time, and therefore must act with all dispatch to ensure that the NDC loses power in the next election! The first step is in devising a plan of action, and after that, the party must elect its flag bearer, to begin the real business of campaigning towards snatching back power!
