The Minister of Justice and Attorney-General (A-G), Gloria Akuffo, is expected to be in Parliament next week to brief Members over the level of investigations that have been conducted into the former President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kwasi Nyantakyi, following the Number 12 exposè by ace investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas.

This was contained in the Business Statement for next week presented to Members on the floor of the House, Friday, by the Majority Leader and Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu.

The A-G, according to the Business Statement, has been programmed to appear on the floor of the House on Tuesday, October 29, 2019, to address the issue which was filed in a question form by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Mion constituency, Mohammed Abdul-Aziz.

Of much interest will be whether the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has concluded its investigations and the charges preferred against him if found culpable of any wrongdoing by using the name of the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, in a supposed business dealings with a foreign investor who happened to be Anas.

Mr. Nyantakyi in the Number 12 exposè had told his supposed foreign investor that he had considerable power to influence many sectors of the Ghanaian economy.

He went further to suggest that he could facilitate business deals and involve President Akufo-Addo whenever he needed to and that such meetings with the President could be achieved if the supposed foreign investors would pay some money to him.

Prior to the premiering of the Number 12 exposè documentary, the entire piece was shown to the President for reaction following which he filed a complaint against Mr. Nyantakyi at the CID of the Ghana Police Service.

Since then, nothing has been heard of the case.

Mr. Mohammed Abdul-Aziz, who has is troubled about the level of transparency in the probe against Mr. Nyantakyi has filed a question in his name, demanding from the A-G to brief the House about the status of the investigations so far.

He told kasapafmonline.com in an exclusive interview that “I wanted to know if the CID has concluded the investigations and if indeed the President was vindicated or found culpable and whether the Attorney-General will have the guts to take action on that matter against the person who appointed her. That is what I’m seeking to do”.
