VICE-PRESIDENT Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has expressed grave concern over the alarming rate of indiscipline, especially among the youth.
He particularly expressed sadness about the use of illicit drugs among the youth and called for a collaborative effort to defeat the canker.
According to him, the country’s future would be in great danger if the youth were allowed to be destroyed by drugs, saying they must be encouraged to shun anti-social behaviours.
The Vice-President was speaking during the celebration of the birth of Prophet Mohammed christened: “The 75th Annual Maulid of the Watania Islamic School” at Aboabo in Kumasi.
Dr. Bawumia was accompanied by the Education Minister, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, aka NAPO; the Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei-Mensah, and other top NPP members in Kumasi.
Dr. Bawumia appealed passionately to the youth that are already into the use of illicit drugs to quickly turn to Allah, as he could save them; he urged them to emulate the life of the Prophet Mohammed.
According to him, Prophet Mohammed exhibited peace, unity, love and all the good things that one can imagine. “… So I am urging Muslims to learn from Prophet Mohammed and better our lives,” he added.
The programme was attended by the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, top Muslim clerics, and prominent traditional leaders from the Zongo communities across the country.
In the course of the event, the National Chief Imam was joined by other clerics to pray fervently for President Akufo-Addo, Dr. Bawumia, government officials and Ghanaians in general.
