Former Gomoa Central Member of Parliament (MP), Rachel Appoh, has won the best female humanitarian award at the Ghana Outstanding Women Awards 2019 held over the weekend.
The former Deputy Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP) Minister asked women to believe in themselves and strive on to prove to society that the Ghanaian woman is capable of taking on challenges in the world.
She urged all not to focus too much on the negative comments from society, but look up to God and work harder for the good of the society.
She added that she has not quit politics as being speculated despite the fact that she didn’t contest for the Gomoa Central parliamentary seat again.
"I am doing a lot behind the scene so I have not quit," she said.
The awards gala, the second edition, held at the National Theatre witnessed some thrilling performances by some fine musicians including Joyce Blessing, Klala, Lamisi, Araya Afrika, among others as thriving women in politics, health, education, innovations, inventions, entrepreneurship and showbiz were duly honored in their respective fields of endeavor.
Madam Barbara Asher Ayisi, Member of Parliament for Cape Coast North constituency was adjudged Outstanding Woman in Politics.
The likes Akumaa Mama Zimbi, Linda Ampah, Naana Hayford, Joana Gyan and Edem Fierre received honorary awards for impacting lives in their respective endeavours.
The GOWA scheme seeks to recognize and honour women who are devoted to the welfare of humanity and contributing to the social change especially in women empowerment.
