Gen. Mosquito Was Tapping Wine When I Was Studying - Sir John

The newly-elected General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party, Lawyer Kwadwo Owusu Afiriyie, affectionately called Sir John has rubbished claims by NDCs General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia that neither he (Sir John) nor any of the newly elected executives of the NPP has enough political experience to match the NDC executives. He told Citi FM on Thursday, March 4, that the experience he and his colleagues have accumulated over the years is something that Asiedu Nketia and NDCs leadership can only dream to have. Mr. Asiedu Nketia in an earlier interview with Citi News said he was disappointed at the quality of leaders chosen by the NPP at their National conference in Kumasi; saying it shows that the opposition party is not ready to win back power from the NDC in 2012. With particular reference to Sir John, Hon Asiedu Nketia told an Accra based radio station that the outspoken NPP General Secretary should have rather settled for some district assembly job somewhere rather than a business as serious as general secretary of a political party. The NDC General Secretary also said Sir John only gained popularity through rabble rousing on radio stations in Kumasi. In a sharp rebuttal on the Citi Breakfast show on Thursday, March 4, Sir John dismissed Mr. Asiedu Nketias claims. He said the NDC General Secretary was only a palm wine tapper at the time he was busily educating himself at the University of Ghana. When I went to the University from 1976 to 1979 at the University of Ghana, he was just a palm wine tapper elsewhereand then in 1980 when I was called to the Bar, 29 years ago, he had just bought forms to enter the Training collegeis it because he has been in parliament for some few years, that he thinks he is experiencedEven in terms of politicking, the name of Sir John evokes fear into the spines of the likes of the NDC which is why they appear to be running away from their own shadows. He said. According to Sir John, the NDC is only complaining because they are harbouring some fears about the capabilities of the New NPP leadership. If you are playing a football match with somebody and you thought that they have a weaker team what you do is to go ahead and score but once you start complaining, it tells you that you have some fear about the capability of those elected and I believe that that is exactly what the NDC is doing around this period. They have seen the crop of team that we have selected and they know that they (the NDC) are there to be beaten. So 2012 is a year for the NPP, so if they want to rant and rave, that is entirely a matter for them; we have a job to do and we will do it to the best of our ability. He added Lawyer Owusu Afiriyie described the ruling NDC government as incompetent, and unable to deliver on the promises they made to Ghanaians. He predicted that the NDC would lose the 2012 elections due to their inability to continue the good works of the New Patriotic Party.
