Nana Konadu Rawling’s NDP Opts For ‘Yes’ In Referendum

The National Democratic Party (NDP) is campaigning for a ‘Yes’ vote in the upcoming referendum. Its General Secretary, Alhaji Mohammed Frimpong, says the introduction of partisan politics in district level elections will improve the system of accountability.

He was speaking at the launch of a report on Spending Efficiency of Local Government Agencies in Ghana by IMANI Centre for Policy and Education on Wednesday.

The December 17 referendum has divided opinions among several stakeholders including traditional rulers.

Political parties are also divided over which way to go.

While the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has backed a ‘Yes’ vote, the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on its members to vote ‘No’.

Other relatively smaller political parties are also divided.

NDP’s Alhaji Frimpong says a ‘Yes’ vote will push the country closer to the election of metropolitan, municipal and district chief executives (MMDCEs).
