EC Certifies Osofo Kyiri Abosom’s GUM and PUP For Election 2020

The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has presented the final certificate of registration to the Ghana Union Movement (GUM) and the Power Union Party (PUP), both new political parties seeking to contest in the 2020 presidential and parliamentary polls.

The two received the certificates on Thursday, 21 November 2019, following the successful completion of the processes required to acquire the authorisation.

The Chairperson of the EC, Mrs Jean Mensa, who handed over the certificate to the leadership of GUM – which was founded by the Head Pastor and General Overseer of the Life Assembly Worship Centre in Accra, Rev Christian Kwabena Andrew, also known as Osofo Kyiri Abosom in Accra on Wednesday – congratulated the party as she explained the laws governing political organisations and cautioned them against flouting any regulations because it “will lead to the withdrawal of your certificate”.

Osofo Kyiri Abosom, who received the certificate on behalf of GUM, stated that the party will abide by the rules and regulations governing political parties.

He reiterated the party’s resolve to unseat the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2020 polls.

The party had received its provisional certificate on 24 September 2019, at which event the founder announced: “Our intention is not to sabotage any individual, government or political party but to contribute to the democratic shaping of Ghana’s development, especially the wellbeing of the citizens.”
