Postal Officer fined for assaulting woman

A circuit court at Asamankese, on Friday imposed a fine of GHc 100 on Calcious Honyunogah, a Postal Officer, for assaulting a woman. The Postal Officer, who pleaded not guilty to the charge, would serve six months in prison in hard labour in default. He was ordered to pay compensation of GHC 60 to Rebecca Ganyo, the victim. The court freed the convict of another charge of uttering abusive words against Ganyo with the intention to provoke breach of the peace. Police Chief Inspector Kate Ogyiri told the court that Honyunogah was dating a 20-year-old sister of Ganyo but the family was against the relationship because the convict was a married man. Prosecution said on August 8 last year, Honyunogah went to the family house of Ganyo and rained insults on the household. Chief Insp Ogyiri said when some family members questioned the convict about his conduct, he become provoked and he pushed Ganyo, who was carrying a baby on her back. Prosecution said that in the process, Ganyo fell down on the baby adding that the convict also pushed an old lady, also member of the family to the ground.
