The Ghana Union of Traders Association is expected to meet the President today over their trade war with the Nigerian counterpart.

The meeting is expected to address issues that have drawn the battle lines between these two traders.

Speaking on Okay FM’s Ade Akye Abia program, Greater Accra Regional Chairman of GUTA, Mr. David Jojo Amoateng explained that their meeting with the President was as a result of the skirmisher that resulted in their fight with the traders yesterday at circle yesterday where some traders were arrested by the police.

He explained that they hope their meeting with the President will yield some positive results.

The Ghana Union of Traders Association yesterday locked up some shops of Nigerian traders in what they describe as the Destiny Day Demonstration.

"We shall continue with our action if our meeting does not yield any results," he said.

Six persons were arrested following a bloody clash between Ghanaian and Nigerian traders in Accra.

Three persons, according to the police, were injured during the Monday morning fight at Kwame Nkrumah Circle.

The fight follows the closure of shops belonging to some Nigerian traders.

An earlier report suggested that the aggrieved Nigerian traders attacked their Ghanaian counterparts with guns and cutlasses.

ACP Abraham Acquaye, the Nima Police Divisional Commander, confirmed the arrest and injuries to DGN Online.

There has been tension between Ghanaian and Nigerian traders in recent times.

Shops belonging to Nigerian traders in Kumasi were shut down this year allegedly by the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA).

Ghanaian traders feel foreigners, particularly Nigerians, Chinese and Lebanese have taken over their retail business.
