Plantain Processing Factory Underway At Bibiani Anhwiaso – Bekwai

Mr. Alfred Amoah, Bibiani – Anhwiaso – Bekwai Municipal Chief Executive (M.C.E) has said that a Plantain Processing Factory, under the government’s One District, One Factory, (1D 1F) was under construction at Subri – Nkwanta.

He said, the project, when completed and fully operational, would provide both skilled and non-skilled job opportunities to several unemployed youth within the municipality.

The MCE was delivering the keynote address at the 35th Annual Farmers Day Celebration held by the Bibiani – Anhwiaso – Bekwai Municipal Assembly (BABMA) at Akaasu, near Sefwi Bekwai.

Mr Amoah further indicated that a 1000 – tonne capacity warehouse, under the One Constituency, One Warehouse initiative, was being constructed at Sefwi Bekwai, to store farm produce of all farmers in the municipality, to prevent post–harvest losses.

Touching on the theme for this year’s celebration, “Enhancing Small Scale Agriculture towards Agri – Business Development,” Mr. Amoah said the government was vigorously shifting the focus of agriculture in Ghana from a subsistence farming approach, to a business like nature.

He said failure of successive governments to introduce policies aimed at modernizing the agricultural sector, has resulted in many young persons increasingly shying away from agricultural activities.

Nana Kwasi Ntori, a 70 year old farmer from Akaasu, was adjudged the Best Municipal Farmer for the year 2019, while Madam Joyce Boateng and Opanin Kwasi Krah from Bibiani, won the 2nd and 3rd prizes respectively.

Madam Theresa Pokaa Poku from Basengele emerged as the Best Municipal Female Farmer, with the Best Municipal Youth Farmer going to 32 – year old Mrs. Marian Ofori Twumasi from Subri – Nkwanta.
