Is Mahama Looking For War?..."Why Is He Constantly Targeting The EC"- JB Danquah

Mr. Joseph Boakye-Danquah has taken a swipe at former President Mahama for constantly targeting the Electoral Commission of Ghana and belittling the efforts they put in reforming the country's electoral process.

His call comes on the back of a meeting Mr. Mahama held with the Christian Council on Tuesday, 10 December 2019 which centered on the EC's formation of an Eminent Persons Advisory Council.

According to him former President Mahama and the NDC have made it an agenda to constantly attack the integrity of the EC as we approach the 2020 general elections.

During the meeting, the flag bearer of the NDC observed that “The same voice of moral society that we count on when things are going bad are the same people they put on the Eminent Persons Advisory Council”.

He continued that “How could you be part of the Electoral Commission, advising it, and at the same time when issues arise that are emotive from the decision of the Electoral Commission, come back and be the ones to resolve the issues?” Mr Mahama wondered.

But in an interview with Peacefmonline.com, Mr. Joseph Boakye-Danquah, who has declared his intention to contest the Subin constituency parliamentary seat, noted that it was absolutely wrong for Mr. Mahama to make the EC his primary target knowing very well that general elections would be held next year.

"What Mahama is saying is illogical. Is he saying that because the selected people command respect in our communities, the EC cannot use them as advisors? The fact that they are voices of reason doesn't mean the EC cannot use them.

Mahama's fear that these are people we would run to when we encounter troubles during our elections, may not even arise. Mahama should also know that these 21 people are not the only wise people in Ghana so even if they err, there are others in our society Mahama and the NDC can always run to and make an appeal", he said.

The astute politician popularly known as JB explained that "instead of Mahama focusing on sending his message to the voter, he is rather lambasting state institutions and ridiculing them.

This same EC ensured he was President and because of his bad leadership, he was voted out. This doesn't give him the room to pick on the EC and lambast it at any given opportunity".

JB added that the approach of Mr. Mahama is very slippery and makes it look like he is calling a "war".
"Why is he constantly targeting the EC?", he asked and demanded that he puts a stop to the act.

As part of the EC’s new approach of enhancing engagement between the Commission and the Society as the nation prepares for the 2020 General Elections, it has inaugurated 21-member committee chaired by the former Commissioner of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), Mr. Emile Short.

He would be assisted by assisted by Mrs Gifty Affenyi Dadzie, a former President of the Ghana Journalists Association, has members such as Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams, Archbishop Palmer-Buckle, Dr Eric Oduro Osae, Dr Rose Mensah Kutin, Dr Yaw Baah and Maulvi Mohammed Bin Sali.
