MTTD: 2,080 Deaths Recorded Through Road Accidents This Year

Director-General MTTD, COP Christian Tetteh Yohunu has explained that a total of 2,080 deaths have been recorded through accidents alone this year.

He says the period spans from January to November this year.

Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' program, he explained that a total of 2,100 deaths were recorded last year and it is a result of the bad attitude of some drivers.

According t him, his outfit has put in some measures to curb these road accidents, especially during this Christmas.

"The MTTD command has deployed police personnel to ensure sanity on our roads.

"The record of death through road accidents is so outrageous that a total of 30 deaths are recorded every month and these are people who contribute to the socio-economic development of this country," he said.

He has cautioned drivers to ensure that they obey traffic rules and also contribute to ensuring sanity on the road.

The Ghana Police Service on Tuesday launched the 2019 edition of its ‘Operation Father Christmas’ ahead of the Christmas festivities to ensure a safe yuletide.

The launch saw personnel of the service march through some principal streets of Accra after a parade at the Police Headquarters.

A statement from the Police Service said the ‘Operation Father Christmas’ forms part of arrangements to ensure an incident-free Christmas.

The ‘Operation Father Christmas’, among other things, is to ensure that the police are readily on hand to protect lives and property and also maintain law and order throughout the season.
