Ghana and Chelsea Midfield star Michael Essien will sponsor this year�s best footballer award at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science & Technology in his home country. The Sports Awards event dubbed 'KNUST Sports Awards' which is held every year recognizes students who excel in sports during the academic year. This year�s event is slated for March 20th, 2010 at the Great Hall of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science &Technology (KNUST). Three individuals have been shortlisted and one will win the Michael Essien Award. The winner takes home a Plaque and a cash prize donated by Michael Essien. Michael Essien will also use the occasion to present two autographed jerseys to the award winner and the Vice-Chancellor of the KNUST Professor Kwasi Kwafo Adarkwa. Dignitaries to grace the occasion include the Sports Minister Hon Akua Sena Dansua, Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon Kofi Opoku Manu and Chancellor of KNUST His majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu ll. Fred Pappoe, Vice President of the Ghana Football Association and an Alumnus of KNUST will be given an award for his contribution to the development of football in Ghana.
