Police Round Up 18 Suspected Western Togoland Separatists In The Northern Region

The Police in the Northern Region have arrested 18 people suspected to be part of the secessionists' group, Western Togoland.

The Public Relations Officer (PRO) for the Northern Regional Police Command, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Mr. Mohammed Yusif Tanko says the suspects who were arrested in Bimbilla, the Nanumba North Municipality in the Northern region were put before the Yendi Circuit Court on Monday, December 30, 2019.

Remand

He said the suspects who have been charged with conspiracy to commit treason were remanded by the court to reappear on January 9, 2020.

DSP Tanko said on December 27, 2019, a combined team of police and military personnel arrested the suspects on suspicion that they were trying to recruit people in their bid to support them to secede from Ghana to form their own country.

He said the suspects were taken to the Yendi Divisional Headquarters where after preliminary investigations they were charged with conspiracy to commit treason and arraigned.
