US Lifts Visa Restrictions Imposed On Ghana

The United States of America has lifted the visa restrictions imposed on Ghana as applied under Section 243(d) of the U.S. Immigration and Nationality Act.

According to the US, the reason to rescind their decision to lift the restriction imposed on Ghana follows the establishment of a mutually agreed process for the identification, validating and issuance of travel documentation to Ghanaian citizens under final orders of removal in a manner consistent with international standards issued by the international Civil Aviation Organization, of which Ghana is a Member State.

A statement issued by the US Embassy in Accra said from Friday, January 17 visa processing will return to the normal procedures.

The United States (US) on February 4, 2019, its Embassy in Accra revealed that its has discontinued issuing all non-immigrant visas (NIV) to domestic employees (A3 and G5) of Ghanaian diplomats posted in the US.

The statement issued by the US Embassy said: “It is important to note that A3 and G5 visa applications will be processed, but no visas in these categories will be issued while these restrictions remain in effect.”

It said the lack of adjudication did not mean a visa denial, adding that, “the application will remain pending until the visa restrictions are lifted, at which point, the visa application will continue to be processed for issuance”.
