The Regional chairmen of the Convention People's Party (CPP) have condemned the locking up of the national headquarters of the party by some aggrieved members of the party.

It said any aggrieved member of the party must use the internal structures to seek redress as stipulated in the party constitution to ensure cohesion and unity.

This was contained in a statement signed by the regional chairmen after an emergency meeting in Kumasi last Friday to address some pertinent issues in the party.

“We, therefore, by this statement condemn the act and urge the aggrieved members to use internal party structures for redress as stipulated in the party constitution to ensure party cohesion and unity,” it stated.

Provisions

It drew the attention of all aggrieved party members to Article 12 (2) of the party’s constitution.

It provides that “Any member of the party who claims to be aggrieved in anyway by any decision of the party shall not be deemed to have exhausted the procedures for redress unless he or she has gone through all the procedures for redressing grievances founded under Article 14 of the party's constitution.”

Concerned comrades

A group calling itself Concerned Comrades of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) on January 24, 2020, locked up the offices of some CPP executive members over an alleged secret bank account operated by some officers of the party at the GCB Bank Limited.

The group locked up the offices of the party’s acting Chairman, Hajia Hamdatu; Acting General Secretary, James Kwabena Bomfeh, and the National Youth Organiser, Nabila Basiru.

The group accused the three of being behind the opening of the alleged secret account and wanted them to stay away from the office until investigations exonerated them.
