Comment: Marijuana Circulation In SHSS

Society does not frown on the existence of marijuana because of its economic importance to the hair pomade industry. However the society of Ghana does frown on individuals who use marijuana in an illegal way to high themselves especially through smoking, so if the laws of Ghana forbid this act then it is our duty as citizens to expose the very few who engage in this menace. Once a coward, I was unable to disclose any of the social vices happening in my school to the appropriate authorities. As a past student of one of the schools considered first class in Ghana, located in Cape Coast, near the sea shore, I realized it was a tradition for a new group of students to emerge and continue the illegal drug trade established by some past students. I, on several occasions witnessed the illegal drug trade between some students and same town dwellers who tripped into our school in disguise to feed on our leftover foods after dining time was over. The last trade I witnessed was on the 11th of November 2007 and out of curiosity, I pleaded to one seller to allow me taste his illegal stuff which was apparently marijuana. Without having a broad knowledge of what marijuana could do to me when abused, I enjoyed a beverage mixed with marijuana and after some few minutes, I swear I met both heaven and hell on earth. Had it not been for an early confession I made to a group of student to pray for me, I know I would be in an asylum by now. I have now come to realize that some student become vulnerable to deviant behaviors when left to live on their own in our various secondary schools across Ghana without restricted measures in place. Many know of how school authorities are concerned about curbing this menace, but I know one area has been left out and only few know, thus student no longer go to town to purchase illegal drugs but invite the sellers through transactions on phones to meet them on campus. This they do in order to elude authorities who suspect them to be smokers and frequently conduct roll calls. For some of the trades I witnessed, it was so quick that only the hands moved without both parties making an utterance. I would kindly like to use this medium to inform the various authorities in our secondary schools especially the heads to employ able security men to monitor the movement of students and town settlers who come in disguise to plead for food across all secondary school. I also came out with an advice for anyone engaged in any illegal practice, and as it is, I know you might feel reluctant to quit your illegal activities today, but bear in mind, today, two homes await you while on earth, the prison home or the mental home and should you be fortunate to escape these homes you are assured not to escape hell in eternity as a home.
