Drunken Wife Stabs Husband

A 23-year old housewife, Perfect Aboagye, is in the grips of the Anyirawasi Police for deeply stabbing her 30-year-old husband, Evans Ananse, in his right rib. Evans Ananse is currently in the Intensive Care Unit of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra. Information available to Daily Guide indicates that Ananse, a teacher at the Anyirawasi L/A Junior High School, was in a very critical condition so he had to be transferred from the Volta Regional Hospital to Korle Bu. His rib is said to be broken as he suffers from internal bleeding, with blood coming out anytime he breaths. Medical officers are reported to be doing their best to suck out the remaining clots in him. Police report further indicates that apart from the rib that was severely stabbed, Ananse also had multiple deep cuts on his shoulder, at his back and under his eyes as a result of the knife attack from his wife. According to the victims report to the police, his wife returned home late on the night of Wednesday February 24, and when he queried her for coming in late, she became offended and this generated into a scuffle between them. Ananse said out of anger, he asked the wife to leave the house but she refused to move out and rather went in for a knife to stab him severally, making him unconscious until he was rushed to the regional hospital, Ho and later transferred to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital on Thursday. His wife, Perfect, amidst sobbing, however told Daily Guide in an exclusive interview at the police station that she only threw the knife at the husband only to realise that the knife had stabbed him in his rib. She said the remaining cuts on other parts of his body were however not from her but were marks from a bottle the husband had allegedly broken to hurt her. She said the husband rather accused her of being a prostitute, an accusation that led to the scuffle between them. Perfect told Daily Guide that she has a child with Ananse who got her pregnant when she was in the second year in senior secondary school; hence she had to drop out of school. She said she had no intention of killing the husband and prayed that he gets well soon. The police were however of a different view, saying if the knife was simply thrown, as alleged by Perfect, it would not have penetrated that deep into Ananses rib-cage. They suspect that the stabbing was done with some intense force. They further explained that the various cuts on Ananses body could not be from a broken bottle but deep knife cuts. The Anyirawasi District Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Richard Gyebi, told Daily Guide that although the incident happened on February 24, he was surprised that a report was made to the police on March 3rd. According to him, investigations show that the couple might have been drunk but that of the lady was minimal, compared to her husband who was so weak he could not defend himself. DSP Gyebi said his outfit is conducting further investigations but will arraign Perfect before court today.
