In a press conference after today's return to training, Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes sang the praises of Argentinian superstar Lionel Messi, who single-handedly earned Barca's three points in yesterday's victory over Valencia with a superb hat-trick. However, the Catalan keeper also denied that the Blaugrana are dependent upon the youngster for success. "Messi is already the best player in the world, but he could become the greatest footballer in history," said Valdes in comments reported by Marca. "But I don't believe that the team is dependent upon him because we have other players of great quality." With respect to yesterday's match against Valencia, Valdes played down his one-on-one save against Los Che's Nikola Zigic when Barcelona were only one goal ahead. "I do not think that my save was decisive, but it was a factor that allowed us to be lucky enough not to fail." Valdes also commented on the chances of him making the Spanish national team in time for the World Cup, declaring: "If the moment were to arrive, I would go with the highest of ambitions and respect. But it doesn't depend on me."
