Ga Mantse: NPP Is Our Familiar Friend

The Ga Mantse, King Tackie Tawiah III has lauded the opposition New Patriotic Party for maintaining a good relationship with the Ga state and always seeking the blessings of the custodians of the Ga land in everything they do. King Tackie Tawiah who recently took a swipe at President Mills for sidelining him because of his perceived association with the NPP, made the remarks when the newly elected National Executive of the Party paid a courtesy call on him on Monday, March 15. The legitimacy of King Tackie Tawiah as the Ga Mantse has been a subject of controversy since his enstoolment. The King makers of the Ga paramountcy have failed to recognise him saying he is illegitimate and should therefore not be recognised by the media and the Ghanaian populace as the Ga Mantse. The NDC government says it would not recognize King Tackie Tawiah III until his position is gazetted by the National House of Chiefs. The controversies notwithstanding, the NPP leadership called on him at his palace on Monday to introduce themselves to him and to promote a harmonious working relationship between the party and the people of the Ga state. The NPP Chairman, Jake Obetsebi Lamptey indicated that the visit was mainly to introduce the new national executive of the party to the Ga Mantse who is the father of the Ga land in order to build a good working relationship between the party and the people of the Ga State. Welcoming the NPP leaders, King Tackie Tawiah lauded the NPP, who described as very familiar friends of the Ga State for always taking the initiative to seek the blessings of the leaders of the Ga State. We welcome the New Patriotic party here, not because they are strangers to us but rather because they are very familiar friends of the Ga state. They are familiar because they always come here to ask for the blessings of the leaders of the Ga state, the custodians of our tradition. He expressed delight that one of their own has been chosen to head the NPP as the National Chairman. According to the Ga Mantse, the visit of the NPP leaders was essential because it opens some avenues of communication between the people of the Ga State and at least one of the political units that vie for power to guide this country into greater prosperity. We welcome all those who are engaged in that endeavour, this is why our doors are always opened. We know that you mean well for this country, we know that other politicians mean well for this country but we are not too sure whether we can all do it if we let animosity attend our forces. Let us be friends, let us be compatriots with common purpose, let the people of Ghana prosper by all that we do in the name of politics. He counselled. Mr. Obetsebi Lamptey, used the opportunity to appeal to Gas, especially the youth to unite and promote the interest of the Ga people.
