Climate Change Is Real; Stop Gutter Engineering - FRWB Warns

The President of Friends of Rivers and Water Bodies [FRWB], Nana Kwabena Dwomoh-Sarpong, has appealed to Ghanaians to desist from building on waterways to avoid the perennial flooding with the slightest downpour.

He also advised persons living in low-lying areas to voluntarily move to uplands and stop the indiscriminate dumping of refuse which eventually choke gutters and cause flooding.

Nana Kwabena Dwomoh-Sarpong in an interview with UTV warned Ghanaians about climate change and the need to be cautious of unexpected rainfalls.

“Climate change is real and we might experience continues rainfall so we must protect the water body. We as citizens must desist from building on waterways to avoid flooding,” he said.

He also urged developers to “stop gutter engineering and adopt ecological engineering to fight the climate change.”

Nana Kwabena Dwomoh-Sarpong also called on government to equip the local government in the fight against flooding.

According to him, the impact of flooding can cause the nation thousands of cedis if the situation is not solved.
