The Minority MPs Are Only Patriotic About Their Stomachs
The good people of Ghana have in the last few months, witnessed confusion, political grandstanding and outright unconstitutional references and threats in relation to the question of a new voter register. It is unfortunate how a group of think nothing, do nothing opposition members have turned a process that is geared towards deepening of our growing democracy to a political football at a time when the whole country is enjoying massive socio-politico economic stability in all sectors.
I cannot for once fathom why this noise making MPS from a party that lacks a modicum of sense of direction for this country would want to disturb the peace of the nation with an unreasonable walk-out from parliament when the whole nation was ready to listen to the State of the Nation Address by Oyeadeɛye Nana Akufo Addo.
I am not against anybody exercising his democratic or constitutional rights. However, I am of a strong view that such rights must be exercised with the highest sense of responsibility expected from Members of Parliament. To walk out of Parliamentary duty because of delay of MPs Share of the Common Fund only to return to eat the lunch meant for responsible MPS who stayed through the Presidential Address is the height of ignominy and irresponsibility.
The good people of Ghana will not allow these perilous viruses who have turned themselves into a cabal of politicians who are only patriotic about their stomachs to disrupt the steady forward movement of our country. The NDC’s preference for their ‘‘stomach infrastructure’’ to long term overall development of the state, is dangerous and all right thinking people must recognize this and get armed to confront the treachery of this virus called NDC before it assumes epidemic proportion.
The NDC seems to have forgotten that the Ghanaian voter has become more complex and cannot be swayed by frivolities. I dare ask again, where is the NDC Manifesto or message for election 2020? This year’s election is a clash between Nana Addo’s appeal to good governance and economic stability on one hand and John Mahama’s lure of thievery and old school populist clientelism on the other. Indeed John Mahama and his NDC MPS have allowed their stomachs to take precedence over their brains.
I dare say I pity the NDC whose people whose ‘‘dead goat’’ shepherd misleads them. I pity the NDC whose leaders are liars, whose elders are silenced, and whose bigots haunt the airwaves. If the good people of Ghana ever make a mistake of indulging or returning the NDC to power in the unforeseeable future, we can gladly kiss goodbye to accountability, responsiveness and good governance.
We have a choice to vote 4 years for Nana to do more. The alternative is either empty or scary!!
