Asante Kotoko CAF-Inter Club Qualification In Danger After FA Cup Elimination

Asante Kotoko have automatically missed out of the CAF Confederation Cup for the 2020/21 season following their elimination from the Round of 64 of the MTN FA Cup competition on Sunday.

Per the rules governing the competition, the winner of the FA competition qualifies to represent Ghana in the CAF Confederation Cup.

The Porcupine Warriors lost at home to Division one side Asokwa Deportivo by 2-1 which was one of the biggest results to have occurred over the weekend in the competition.

Asante Kotoko following their elimination will also miss out on defending the trophy they won three seasons ago after defeating arch-rivals Hearts of Oak.

Kotoko had set targets for Maxwell Konadu to qualify the team to Africa and the win the CAF Inter-club competition within the next three seasons as a coach.

Maxwell Konadu will now have to set his eyes on the Ghana Premier League which is the only option left for his team to qualify for Africa.

The Porcupine Warriors will face stern opposition from AshantiGold, Aduana Stars, Medeama and arch-rivals Hearts of Oak who are also contenders for the league this season.

Winning the Ghana Premier League will guarantee a place in the CAF ChampionsLeague for the 2020/21 season.

Asante Kotoko lies fifth on the league log with 18 points, three points adrift of the leaders.

Asante Kotoko have represented Ghana in Africa for the past two seasons where they reached the group stages of the Confederation Cup under former coach Charles Akonnor in the 2018/19 season and also played in the first round of the Champions League and Confederation Cup qualifiers last season.
