MPs Drivers Demand Ex-gratia

Drivers of members of parliament have appealed to government to make provision for them when ex-gratia is being paid to MPs after their term of office due to the risky nature of their (MPs drivers) job. The drivers made the appeal in an interview with peace FM at parliament house. They also appealed to the authorities of the Office of Parliament to take steps to increase their salary to minimize their financial difficulties. According to the drivers their salary ranges between Gh80 to Gh100 per month which they said was woefully inadequate. When Peace FM contacted the Majority Chief Whip and MP for Nkwata South Hon Gershon Gbediemeh on the issue, he explained that government gives each MP GH80 per month as driving allowance. He said unlike the two other arms of government namely the judiciary and the executive, MPs drivers are not put on government pay roll, hence it is the MPs who pay their drivers.
