(PHOTOS): Disinfection of Markets Against Coronavirus

As part of efforts by government to keep the country environmentally safe in the wake of the global COVID-19 scourge, about 1,300 sprayers disinfected over 130 market centres in the Greater Accra region on Monday, March 23, 2020.

Prior to this, an announcement of the planned closure of markets in the capital was made by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly on Friday, March 20th to pave way for the exercise.

Personnel from the Ghana Armed Forces and the Ghana Police Service were at hand to ensure public compliance with the one-day ban on commercial activities.

The exercise, according to the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development is to help enhance the conditions of hygiene in markets following the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.

The fumigation is expected to be replicated across other markets nationwide in the next couple of days.

Meanwhile, other communities took advantage of the situation to embark on a cleanup exercise.
