Only GHS Confirms COVID-19 Cases; Don't Heed To 'Fake' Sources - Dr. Nsiah Asare

Ghana has recorded 152 cases of Covid-19 cases as at 30th March 2020. Eleven cases were confirmed on Sunday, March 29, 2020 by the Ghana Health Service which added up to make up this number of Coronavirus cases.

However, there are some skeptics who disbelieve the figures put out by the Health Ministry.

There has been different figures from different sources and it appears the information reaching people about how many have tested positive since the outbreak of the virus in the country is pumping fear into the lives of many Ghanaians.

Therefore for the purpose of clarification, President Akufo-Addo’s Health Advisor, Dr. Anthony Nsiah Asare is calling for Ghanaians to calm down as he narrates the real figures.

Speaking on Peace FM’s 'Kokrokoo' program on Tuesday, March 31, 2020, Dr. Nsiah Asare told host Kwami Sefa Kayi that the true figure that has been recorded by the health authorities is one hundred and fifty-two (152) and any other figure on any platform should be disregarded.

He said there has not been any new cases so far and should there be any additions to the figure, it will be officially announced by the Health Ministry and appropriate authorities.

He also debunked claims that three thousand tests have been conducted by Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR).

According to him, the number has been bloated and shouldn’t be consumed by the general public.

He asserted that the two health research centers in Ghana, Noguchi and the Kumasi Centre for Collaborative Research (KCCR), have recorded 2547 cases and out of the number, there are 152 positive cases.

He appealed to Ghanaians not to pay attention to any figures which are not official because rumormongers have taken advantage of the situation, causing fear and panic.

“The tests we’re doing are at two places, well controlled, which are Noguchi and KCCR. So they confirm any figure that comes out positive before we announce it. If you hear somebody else saying a different thing, it’s a rumor. I don’t know where they get the figures from. The last time I saw someone say that Ghana has recorded 540 cases. It’s untrue. The figure I have given you is the authentic real figure in Ghana," he reiterated.
