The Ghana Psychological Association has described people under quarantine and isolation due to the COVID-19 outbreak as “heroes’’.

The Association has applauded these heroes and heroines for their courage and love to commit to either self or mandatory quarantine.

Speaking on behalf of the Association at a press briefing on Friday, April 3, 2020, Collins Badu Agyemang, Vice President of the Association empathized with the victims of the virus saying “to be honest with you, taking your sample to go and test is not easy. Breaking news connotes breaking hearts in some cases and it opens the doors of panics, attacks, helplessness, anxiety among others. And that is why the services of Psychologists, now more than ever has become important’’.

He stated that Psychologists have been dispatched to the victims to ensure there are mentally strong to survive the virus infection and with the quarantined population, also fully supported to return to their families mentally and physically healthy.

“It is a lot of loving kindness these ones have shown to Ghanaians. To accept to be isolated out of love so that we protect our loved ones. They are heroes. They’re heroines and these are people that need a Psychologist. We have engaged with them and we continue to assure them and support them," he said.

204 Cases, 6,000 Samples Taken For Testing

As at April 2, 2020, 6,000 samples across the country have been taken to be tested as part of a contact tracing and enhanced testing exercise according to the Ghana Health Service (GHS).

Also, Ghana has recorded 204 cases COVID-19 with five (5) deaths. The number of regions reporting cases remain five (5) (Greater Accra, Ashanti, Northern, Upper West and Eastern). The Greater Accra Region has most of the cases (183) followed by the Northern Region (10), Ashanti Region (9), Upper West Region (1) and Eastern Region (1).

Most of the cases are reported from routine/enhanced surveillance activities. Cases from travellers under mandatory quarantine remain 89.
