Personal Protective Equipment Remains A Challenge For Frontline Workers - Director-General GHS

Director-General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Dr Patrick Aboagye has indicated that Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) remains a major challenge for frontline workers.

Speaking at the media briefing organized by the Ministry of Information to update the public on the state of the coronavirus in the country, Dr Patrick Aboagye said that there is not enough PPE even in the whole world, urging all the facilities Heads to ensure appropriate distribution of the available masks.

“PPE remains a major challenge for us. These are definitely not going to be enough and so we urge facilities Heads to ensure appropriate distribution of the masks,” he indicated.

He stressed that “generally, majority of our people need nose masks and gloves and that is going to be for more than 95 to 98 per cent of all health workers; we want to ensure that we have available PPE for them”.

He hinted that the Ghana Health Service has started a process of some local production of the PPE to produce more comfortable and washable nose masks in the country for everyone.

To him, the reason behind the local production of the PPE is to encourage all and sundry to wear masks, especially those with flu-like symptoms.

“We want to encourage all people to wear masks if they can, especially those who have flu-like symptoms,” he hinted.

He added that “a lot more is being done to push more PPE into the system and our plan to promote local production to boost what we are bringing in currently”.
