Mr Isaac Odoom, the District Chief Executive (DCE) of Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa (AOB), has described the political branding of Veronica Buckets amidst the COVID-19 pandemic as unnecessary, which is affecting public usage.

"I am against the practice where politicians in particular, in the midst of the health crisis, make donations of Veronica Buckets among others with their logos or pictures on them just to score political points," he said.

"At this critical period in our national lives, politicians must learn to donate freely without any motives and allow the discerning public to make their informed decisions ….."

Reiterating the Assembly's plans to contain the spread of the COVID-19 in an interview with the media, Mr Odoom explained that some people in the District had refused to use the Veronica Buckets donated by political opponents.

The DCE blamed the situation on political polarisation of virtually every issue in the country, which was divisive and stifling development.

However, he expressed the Assembly's commitment to continually support all public health institutions to make healthcare affordable, reliable and accessible to all.

Mr Odoom called on the media to intensify public education on COVID-19 to enable the people to adopt best practices to minimise its spread adding that they should be circumspect in their reportage to avoid panic and public unrest.

He urged the public to be cautious and observe basic personal hygiene protocols including regular handwashing with soap under running water, adhering to social distancing rules and regular use of hand sanitizers to prevent the spread of the virus.
