Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has lauded Ghana’s COVID-19 Response Team for taking the lead ahead of some of the most advanced countries in the area of contact tracing per capital.

The Vice President of the Republic indicated that ongoing testing per capital where the COVID-19 Response Team is aggressively tracing people with the virus in their system in the epicentres, Ghana has recorded 37,954 out of the over 100,000 in the entire African continent.

In an interview with host of PEACE FM’s ‘kokrokoo’ Chairman-General Kwami Sefa Kayi during the launch of the GH COVID-19 Tracker App to help in tracing people who have the virus, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia said that “we are actually ahead of some of the most advanced countries in the area of contact tracing for example or testing per capital . . . we are quite far ahead”.



He, however, reiterated the stance of President Akufo-Addo that the country will continue to follow science and data in handling the global pandemic.

“All the measures that the President has announced has been based on science and the best advice that all the scientists have on this, and you can see what we are doing in Ghana is being consistent with what is being done in other parts of the world,” he reiterated.

Ghana’s case count

Ghana has recorded 566 confirmed cases of the COVID-19.

The increasing number of cases is due to the ongoing enhanced surveillance exercise.

“As of 11th April, 2020, 23:00 Hrs, a total of 37,954 persons have been tested with 566 being positive for COVID-19. The breakdown of the 566 positive cases are as follows: four (4) have been treated, discharged and tested negative, 552 cases have been categorized as mild disease on treatment, two (2) moderate to severe cases, none currently on ventilators and eight (8) have died,” GHS indicated.

Of the 566 confirmed COVID-19 cases, 292 were reported from the routine surveillance, 159 from enhanced surveillance activities and 115 from travellers under mandatory quarantine in both Accra and Tamale.

Regions that have reported cases are Greater Accra, Ashanti, Central, Eastern, Western, Volta, Northern, North East, Upper East, and Upper West.
