GES Begins Disinfection Exercise In All SHS

The Ghana Education Service in partnership with Waste management expert, Zoomlion Ghana Limited, will begin a nationwide fumigation and disinfection exercise of all Senior High Schools as the government of Ghana intensifies efforts to curtail the spread of coronavirus in the country.

Speaking at the launch of the event last Tuesday, the Director of GES, Professor Kwasi Opoku Amankwa, said the government is determined to enhance the fight against coronavirus by taking measures to disinfect and fumigate school dormitories, classrooms and office to ensure a safe environment.

"It is important for people to note that there is a difference between disinfection and fumigation, so we are doing both to ensure that our school premises are very safe,’’ Prof. Opoku Amankwa said.

On his part, the Minister of Education, Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh, reiterated the government’s commitment to the fight against the deadly novel virus.

According to him, the exercise comes at a time that all pragmatic measures to curb the spread of the deadly virus must be activated.

The planned disinfection and fumigation of schools comes on the heels of a similar exercise carried out by District Assemblies nationwide to disinfect market places.

Other partners include Vector Control Services and the Ministry of Education.
