Wa West MP Joins Fight Against COVID-19

Mr Joseph Yiele Chireh, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Wa West Constituency has donated hand washing items and Personal Protection Equipment (PPEs) to the Wa West District Health Directorate to help fight against the coronavirus(COVID-19).

The items, worth GHC47,300.00 included: 20 pieces of infrared thermometers, four boxes of examination gloves, one carton of theatre gown, eight packs of face masks, four cartons (650ml) of liquid soap,10 cartons (250ml and 200ml) of alcohol-based hand sanitizers and nine veronica buckets.

Mr Abubakari Ednanni, the Wa West Constituency Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who handed over the items at Wechiau on Thursday, said the MP recognised the dire need to help safeguard the health of his constituents hence the donation.

He said it was the desire of the MP and the NDC to ensure a healthy population to enable them participate actively in all national activities including; the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections.

Mr Ednanni urged the people to prioritise their health and to follow the precautionary measures such as social distancing, regular handwashing with soap under running water and to stay at home among others to protect themselves against the deadly virus.

He expressed the hope that the items would be used for the intended purposes for the benefit of the people.

Receiving the items, Mr Clifford Veng, the Wa West District Director of Health Services, commended the MP for the donation and said it would help improve the safety of the health personnel in the discharge of their duties.

“We are not going to let them sit down and rot because we are in difficult times, we are in abnormal times, we are going to distribute them to all the health facilities in the district to work”, he explained.

He said the MP prioritised the health needs of the people in the constituency and contributed to support the district health sector.
