A Cape Coast Circuit Court has sentenced a 42-year-old teacher to six years imprisonment in hard labour for causing harm.
The accused, Ekow- Steele Dadzie pleaded not guilty to charges of intentionally and unlawfully causing harm.
The court presided over Mrs Dorinda Arthur Smith after full trial, found him guilty and convicted him accordingly.
Prosecution, Chief Inspector John Asare Bediako told the court that the complainants are a couple living in the same house with the convict and his wife at Basakrom, a suburb of Cape Coast.
He said the house belonged to Mr Emmanuel Kobina Andrews, first complainant and the wife of the convict who are all family members, but there has been a long standing dispute in respect determining the various interests in the house by the family.
Chief Inspector Bediako said on Wednesday, November 13, 2019, Andrews had a misunderstanding with Dadzie for uprooting a pawpaw tree in the house.
Mr Andrews who was then carrying a brand new water closet pot to his room was attacked by Dadzie with an iron rod in the presence of Mrs Andrews. Who then tried to intervene but Dadzie whipped her with the rod.
He said the convict went on to chase the complainant out of the house and repeatedly hit him with the iron rod amidst shouts from onlookers around.
The prosecution said the complainant and wife were rushed to Cape Coast Teaching Hospital (CCTH) and were admitted for six days.
Prosecution said Dadzie rushed to the office of Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit and lodged a complaint against the couple and was issued with a police medical report form to attend hospital.
He said later that day another relative made an official report on behalf of the couple who were then on admission.
He said the accused was later arrested and arraigned.
