Justice Honyenuga Had It Coming . . . - Kweku Baako Reacts To SC Nominee's Precarious Position

Parliament’s Appointments Committee (PAC) has vetted all four of President Akufo-Addo's nominees to the Supreme Court.

Private legal practitioner Yoni Kulendi, Senior Lecturer and Law Professor Henrietta Mensa-Bonsu and Justice Issifu Omoro Tanko Amadu had unanimous approval and are an inch closer to replacing some retiring justices, except Justice Clemence Jackson Honyenuga who was referred to the plenary.

Kweku Baako commended the three nominees for their performance but was not happy with some of the questions posed by the Member of Parliament for North Tongu constituency, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.

Justice Clemence Jackson Honyenuga

Justice Honyenuga was referred to the plenary after failing to secure unanimous approval from the Appointments Committee of Parliament (ACP) when he appeared before it for vetting.

Justice Honyenuga had a small hiccup during his vetting because of his endorsement of President Akufo-Addo at a durbar in the Volta Region.

He subsequently had to apologize for his statement of endorsement which he said he didn't write himself.

Kweku Baako who was speaking to this on Peace FM's morning show 'Kokrokoo' said he predicted that Justice Honyenuga will face such challenges; hence 'I wasn't surprised'.

"It was inevitable; in fact, I predicted it ahead of time that he would have some challenges from the minority side because of the perceived endorsement. He should have avoided the thing; now he's claiming he didn't write it and that he read it on behalf of the community of Chiefs . . . it still amounted to an endorsement even if obscure and I find it difficult to reconcile myself with it," he averred.
