Obour Shares Traumatic Experience . . . Tells Everything About His Father's Death

Former President of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), Bice Osei Kuffour, popularly known as Obour has revealed that the demise of his father, Nana Osei Boansi Kuffour, and surrounding news plunged him into a state of trauma.

Obour, narrating how he processed stories about his father's death, told Kwesi Aboagye on Peace FM's 'Entertainment Review' on Saturday, May 16, 2020, that he suffered deep emotional wound when the father was pronounced dead at the Ridge hospital but was also extremely hurt when people began to frame up stories.

According to him, some media reports indicated that he had a hand in his own biological father's death whereas others said he (Obour) had tested positive for Coronavirus and many more speculations came through during the days that his number one supporter had passed on to glory.

He added that he received a myriad of stories from residents at Asante Akyem South, where he is contesting to become a Member of Parliament, which were all well-prepared lies about him.

He also denied reports that he stormed the Ridge hospital with some muscular men to retrieve his father's mortal remains from the morgue which nearly turned into a brawl between him and the staff of the hospital.

Obour noted that he desired to sue his accusers and speculators but was advised by some high-profile personalities and so refused to take the issue to court for the truth to be told.

"Even Jesus who was the Saviour suffered same fate where people told lies and spat on him and in all of his sufferings, he still availed himself to die and become the Saviour of the world. So, if they peddle lies and insult me (Obour), and I can forgive them, why not? You can also liken my situation to Joseph in the bible. Look at his sufferings, his brothers hoping that an animal would devour him and even selling him but in spite of all this, it was when he was enslaved in Egypt that God also lifted him high. So, maybe all these fabricated stories and lies were part of God's purpose for life to bless me and my family," he said.

Obour's father passed away at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge Hospital) on Friday, March 27, 2020, and the doctors said "he is likely to be a confirmed Covid-19”.

The musician, now Parliamentary candidate for Asante Akyem South, released an official statement revealing circumstances leading to his father's demise.

''Nana returned from UK on 19th March after his yearly visit to the family. Upon his return he was fine but began coughing on Sunday 22nd. We arranged for his blood sample to be tested and he tested positive for malaria. We began treatment for malaria but his condition got worse. We arranged to bring him to Accra to be tested for Covid 19 at Ridge Hospital on Wednesday. They informed us that his report will be ready on Friday but we should keep him in quarantine which we did. On Thursday night he had extreme difficulty with breathing so we called the Ambulance service and informed them of his condition. We told them the patient has tested for COVID 19 and awaiting his results so they should come along with appropriate apparel.

''The ambulance team took him to Ridge Hospital around 11pm on Thursday March 26. We informed the health team at Ridge of his condition and also informed them he had earlier taken a test for Covid and awaiting results," the statement read.

The MUSIGA Former President added ''the Drs informed us that he is likely to be a confirmed Covid case and as such we should take steps to do a contact trace and quarantine ourselves''.

Although Obour couldn't tell the actual cause of his father's death when asked on Peace FM's entertainment programme, he, however, expressed doubts over the doctor's report saying ''if you look at about 50 people who had an interaction with my father in one way or the other and all of them tested negative, if indeed he was infected by COVID-19, then his COVID-19 was very special. Then it was extremely special COVID-19 which was not a transferable COVID-19".

He also said he has stopped pursuing his dad's mortal remains.

''My family has informed me my dad has not been buried yet," he added.

Obour further shared his traumatic experience saying after his dad passed away and some Ghanaians began to read meanings into it with all the accusations that were thrown at him, there were times he hit his lowest moments in life.

He was emotionally devastated but it took the intervention of his relatives and some people close to him who gave him soothing words of encouragement for him to become strong and continue living.
