The Old Tafo Municipal Assembly is taking the fight against COVID-19 a step further through improved sanitation at the community level.

Aside the provision of hygiene and protective gears to the citizenry and enforcement of all the safety protocols to contain the dreaded disease, the assembly is also resourcing elected assembly members to regularly clean their electoral areas.

It has consequently procured assorted sanitation equipment for all the four Zonal Councils within the Municipality to enhance sanitation in the localities.

The equipment worth GHC 43, 000.00 include; 120 wheel barrows, 100 pickaxes, 400 long brooms 100 spades and 100 shovels.

Mr. Fred Obeng Owusu, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), at a brief ceremony to hand over the equipment to the Presiding Member, Mr. Richard Appiah, said good hygiene was integral to the fight against COVID-19.

He said the assembly was adopting improved sanitation practices as part of a comprehensive response plan to prevent the spread of the virus in the Municipality.

“It is important to resource the representative of the people with requisite equipment to facilitate good sanitation which has become critical more than ever”, the MCE stated.

He said all Assembly Members within the various Zonal Councils would be given unimpeded access to the equipment that would be allocated to the Councils whenever they organize communal labour.

He added that, “you can also fall on the assembly for additional equipment in the event of a massive clean-up exercise, which requires more logistics”.

The MCE entreated the Assembly Members to make good use of the equipment to keep their electoral areas clean to contain the pandemic.

Mr. Okoffo Boadi Boampong, the Municipal Coordinating Director underlined the need for the Assembly Members to mobilize the people for regular clean-up exercises to keep the environment clean.
