Music is one of the few industries built almost entirely on the strength of fans and that’s why singer/composer, MzVee, is asserting that artistes must always appreciate their fans for supporting them with their hard-earned money.
She has just put out her third single for this year called Baddest Boss, featuring Mugeez, and believes she would not have come this far without the loyalty of her fans. Her other 2020 releases are Sheriff and Who Are You.
MzVee took a 14-month break from making music and says she has been touched by the type of comments people make under her social media posts because they are full of good wishes.
She somehow assumed being away from active music for a while would diminish fans’ interest in her career but she found out people rather want to see her make more strides and are excited about what she has been up to recently.
“The fans mean a lot to me. They are the ones who put me where I am. There’s no me without the fans so I need to keep them happy.
"I need to make sure I hear what they have to say because my career involves them 100 per cent,” said MzVee whose previous hits include Natural Girl, Sing My Name, Bend Down, I Don’t Know, Borkor Borkor, Dancehall Queen and Come And See My Moda.
Having performed alone on the two singles she has made this year, she chose to bring out something done with someone else, and that happened to be Mugeez. She sees him as a super-talented colleague who is also a friend and fun to work with.
Baddest Boss, rendered in Ewe, Pidgin English and Twi, is a jumpy, feel-good piece produced by Saszy Afroshii and mixed and mastered by Possigee.
The song is about a guy trying to woo a woman with promises of wealth and comfort and she backing away due to her independent nature. The video of the song was shot in South Africa.
For believing that fans are the reason the music industry exists, MzVee decided to keep them entertained and also offer them a little cash during the lockdown in certain parts of the country due to COVID-19.
She initiated a singing contest on Instagram called Sing Your Heart Out and participants were to send in short videos of themselves performing songs of their own choice.
There were thousands of participants and the top two won GHS1000 each. The contest unveiled many brilliant amateur singers and MzVee has plans to bring it back at some other time.
The young lady hopes to drop an album by the end of the year and if the situation allows, probably do a concert as well.
The Baddest Boss single is available on Apple Music, Sound Cloud, Audiomack, Boom Play and other online platforms.
