Musicians Must Use Digital Platforms — Bessa Simons

The acting president of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), Bessa Simons, has urged his colleagues to make good use of digital platforms to earn some revenue as COVID-19 is bringing things to a halt in the entertainment industry.

According to him, digital technologies can offer big opportunities for musicians to market their products encouraging them not to wait for COVID-19 to cripple the creative arts industry before thinking of solutions.

“All musicians should look up to the digital and online platforms because we are in difficult times. Now that we have time on our hands, let’s look into it. We must not say COVID-19 is here and no entertainment activities are taking place. We can do more using digital media,” he said.

Bessa Simons called on bloggers and those involved in the digital music marketing space to join hands with MUSIGA to work with musicians interested in using their platforms.

“All bloggers and digital organisations should get to MUSIGA because we have a lot of musicians who would love to join their platforms. They need us and we need them, this is the time we must collaborate to come out with good content,” he said.

Way forward

Speaking on MUSIGA’s next plans, including electing new leaders to spearhead the union’s activities for the next four years, Bessa Simons said, “so far, it’s been good but it’s not been easy because we have a lot of people to look after. The way forward is that we’re hoping the pandemic will go down for some of the restrictions to be eased so that we can go back to work again.

“We also scheduled our election for June 24, we hope it will come on depending on what happens. If not, we have an Executive Council where all the 16 regions will come together to make another decision on the way forward,” he explained.
