Children Solicit For 'Covid-19'

For some time now, some children between two and 16 years have invaded the streets of Accra and other cities to solicit for alms.

Strangely, in this era of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the children go about their activities without wearing nose masks or any form of protection.

These children dangerously rush to motorists and passengers in traffic to beg for money and food.

Most of the time, they engage in their activities in concert with some elderly women believed to be their mothers and guardians, who usually sit on the pavements or under trees along the streets.

It is high time the Department of Social Welfare took proactive measures to ensure that the children are not only safe but are also taken off the streets to protect them from contracting the COVID-19.

Who knows — some of them may already have the COVID-19, which they could in turn transmit to both motorists and pedestrians, some of whom do not wear nose masks.
